Associate Distribution Engineer
Talascend is currently seeking an Associate Distribution Engineer for a contract opportunity with our client in Chicago, Illinois.
Overview
The role involves designing and supporting electrical distribution systems, working in both office and field environments, and supporting project development, design, and inspection activities related to utility projects in dense urban settings.
Responsibilities
- Develop design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems operating from 4kV through 138kV, including programmatic work such as overloaded transformers, inspection and maintenance, joint use, and inspection reports
- Ensure compliance with safety, design, and quality standards
- Travel to sites as needed, perform inspections, and conduct engineering design work at the office
- Perform engineering calculations such as structural analysis for poles, guying, conductor sag/tension, and voltage drop
- Develop permitting documents for various authorities
- Support construction activities, including post-construction reviews and root cause analysis of outages
- Coordinate conflicting utility requirements and develop work permits, easements, and ROW applications
- Gain experience with customer GIS and WMS systems, including GE Smallworld, Bentley Expert Designer, and Maximo
Qualifications
- Completed bachelor of science in an engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial) from an ABET-accredited institution
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Ability to utilize a personal vehicle for required travel
- Willingness to perform both field and office work, including outdoor environments
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with distribution design tools such as BOUD, Pole Foreman, SOCKET, Spida-Calc or similar
- Experience with CAD tools, MicroStation and/or GIS
- Knowledge of NESC standards and design standards
