Talascend is currently seeking an Cogeneration Supervisor for a contract opportunity with our client in Lake Orion, Michigan.

Overview

This role involves overseeing the daily operations and maintenance of a cogeneration plant, ensuring reliable and efficient power and thermal energy production while maintaining safety and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise daily cogeneration plant operations to meet electrical and thermal energy demand
  • Monitor plant conditions using DCS/SCADA systems and adjust operating parameters for optimal efficiency
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and control system issues to minimize downtime
  • Interpret technical drawings, schematics, and P&IDs to support operational decisions
  • Lead and mentor a team of cogen operators
  • Manage scheduling, training, certification, performance reviews, and timecard approvals
  • Support professional development and cross-training initiatives
  • Plan, prioritize, and oversee preventive and corrective maintenance tasks
  • Direct scheduled and emergency maintenance activities, including water testing, lubrication, and filter replacements
  • Coordinate maintenance work with internal teams and outside contractors
  • Enforce adherence to OSHA health, fire, and safety standards
  • Maintain environmental compliance related to plant emissions and reporting requirements
  • Conduct safety audits, incident investigations, and ongoing operator safety training
  • Assist in identifying, planning, and executing capital projects and long-term facility improvement initiatives
  • Provide technical input on upgrades, replacements, and system enhancements
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for plant emergencies or outages
  • Provide rapid response and direction during unplanned events, requiring 24/7 oncall availability

Qualifications

  • Typically 5–8+ years in power generation, cogeneration, or industrial plant operations
  • Strong background working with generators and power production equipment
  • 1–2 years in a leadership or supervisory role preferred
  • Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making abilities
  • Advanced troubleshooting and analytical skills
  • Proficiency with DCS/SCADA systems and standard software (Excel, CMMS, Word, Outlook)
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, P&IDs, manuals, and engineering documentation
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Technical diploma, trade certification, or associate degree in engineering, power generation, industrial technology, or related field preferred
  • Experience working in a unionized environment
