Talascend is currently seeking a Fire Protection Engineer for a contract opportunity with our client in Houston, Texas.

Overview

The role involves designing and specifying fire protection systems for high-tech industry projects, ensuring compliance with relevant codes and standards, and coordinating with various engineering disciplines and regulatory authorities.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and perform detailed engineering work related to fire protection systems in semiconductor, AI datacenter, or life sciences industries.
  • Specify fire protection systems, including sprinkler, deluge, and fire-water systems, along with related equipment like pumps and storage tanks.
  • Perform hydraulic calculations to determine system pipe sizes and capacities.
  • Ensure compliance with NFPA standards, local regulations, and authority having jurisdiction requirements.
  • Coordinate regulatory approvals and manage engineering subcontracts related to fire protection systems.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of applicable codes and standards such as NFPA, ASME, IBC, and IMC.
  • Troubleshoot issues on-site and provide technical guidance to team members.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) in mechanical engineering or related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in fire protection systems within semiconductor, AI datacenter, or pharmaceutical industries.
  • Deep knowledge of NFPA 13, NFPA 14, FM standards, and NFPA 214 for deluge systems.
  • Experience specifying, designing, and testing fire protection systems and equipment.
  • Ability to perform hydraulic calculations and determine pipe sizes for fire water systems.
  • Knowledge of applicable codes and standards including ASME, IBC, and IMC.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to manage multiple tasks under conflicting deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in managing engineering subcontracts and project coordination.
  • Familiarity with regulatory approval processes and coordination with authorities having jurisdiction.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for mentoring and collaboration within multidisciplinary teams.
