Talascend is currently seeking a Controls Engineer – Data Center Infrastructure for a remote direct hire opportunity with our client.

OVERVIEW: 


We are seeking multiple Controls Engineers to support the design, integration, and commissioning of mission-critical data center infrastructure systems. These roles will focus on developing and maintaining control systems that ensure reliability, efficiency, and uptime across power and cooling systems.
The ideal candidates will have experience working with SCADA, Energy Management Systems (EMS), and Building Management Systems (BMS) within data centers, power generation, or other critical infrastructure environments.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: 
  • Design, develop, and implement control systems architecture for data center environments
  • Configure and support SCADA, EMS, and BMS platforms for monitoring and control of electrical and mechanical systems
  • Integrate control systems with:
    • Power distribution systems (UPS, switchgear, generators)
      • HVAC and cooling systems (chillers, CRAH/CRAC units)
  • Develop control logic, sequences of operation, and system interfaces
  • Support commissioning, startup, and functional testing of control systems
  • Troubleshoot and resolve controls-related issues during construction and operations
  • Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, and commissioning teams to ensure system performance and reliability
  • Develop and maintain documentation, including control narratives, P&IDs, and as-built drawings
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, cybersecurity protocols, and client specifications
  • Support ongoing optimization and performance improvements for operational data centers
POSITION REQUIREMENTS: 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 3–8+ years of experience in controls engineering within:
  • Hyperscale Data centers 
  • Hands-on experience with:
    • SCADA systems (e.g., Wonderware, Ignition, Siemens, GE, etc.)
    • Energy Management Systems (EMS)
    • Building Management Systems (BMS) (e.g., Johnson Controls, Honeywell, Siemens)
  • Experience with PLC programming (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar)
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Power monitoring and control systems
    • HVAC control strategies
    • Networking and communication protocols (Modbus, BACnet, OPC, etc.)
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical diagrams, P&IDs, and control schematics
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience supporting hyperscale or enterprise data center projects
  • Knowledge of redundant and high-availability system design (Tier III / Tier IV)
  • Background in commissioning or startup of mission-critical facilities
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity best practices for industrial control systems

Location & Travel
  • Location: Remote
  • Travel: Up to 25–50% depending on project phase (commissioning-heavy roles may require more)
