Geotechnical Field Engineer
Talascend is currently seeking a Geotechnical Field Engineer for a contract opportunity with our client in Cheyenne, Wyoming.
Overview
The position involves providing full-time field support during earthworks operations at a large-scale project site, requiring strong technical supervision, coordination with multiple disciplines, and hands-on involvement in geotechnical investigations and earthwork activities.
Responsibilities
- On-site technical supervision of earthworks activities
- Support soil and/or rock excavations
- Implement engineering specifications and drawings for earthworks and soil excavation support
- Prepare or review technical memos, reports, and geotechnical studies
- Review vendor submittals and incorporate information into the design solution
- Execute work in accordance with schedule while maintaining high quality standards
- Coordinate closely with other technical disciplines in planning and execution
Qualifications
- Master's degree in geotechnical engineering or related discipline from an accredited university
- 11+ years of progressive related experience in the field
- Advanced knowledge of earthworks, including cold weather best practices
- Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications
- Knowledge of site and subsurface investigation, foundation design and analysis, earthwork designs, and slope stability analysis
- Familiarity with industry guides, codes, and standards
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Experience with geotechnical software such as Slope/W, Plaxis, and Microsoft Office programs
- Demonstrable experience working on earthworks for large-scale projects
Preferred Qualifications
- Registered Geotechnical Professional Engineer (P.E.) or equivalent
- Related experience in geotechnics applied to earthworks design and construction
- Knowledge of relevant geotechnical software and construction practices
