Senior Mechanical Engineer
Talascend is currently seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer for a contract opportunity with our client in Houston, Texas.
Overview
This role involves leading mechanical design and engineering activities for large-scale projects, ensuring technical excellence and coordination across multiple teams and stakeholders. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will provide expertise in various mechanical systems, oversee project execution, and communicate effectively with clients.
Responsibilities
- Directs and manages mechanical design and engineering activities for projects of medium to large scale.
- Manages complex interactions among multiple entities or client-mandated collaborations with other contractors.
- Possesses in-depth knowledge of equipment packages such as chilled water systems, water treatment packages, condenser/cooling tower systems, air cooled heat exchangers, heating water systems, and other skid-mounted pump and tank packages.
- Engages with liquid cooling systems on data center projects.
- Experience with dry systems (HVAC, cleanrooms) on semiconductor and/or data center projects is a plus.
- Good working knowledge of industry codes such as ASME, API standards, AWWA, and NFPA.
- Supports mechanical engineering schedules in collaboration with other disciplines.
- Coordinates with procurement, construction, startup, safety, and project controls teams.
- Prepares and approves bid analyses and procurement recommendations for mechanical equipment and materials.
- Addresses and resolves field or jobsite issues related to mechanical engineering.
- Conducts site visits as necessary and supports safety protocols and quality assurance procedures.
- Conveys complex technical matters and provides qualified recommendations to clients and management.
Qualifications
- A recognized degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited college or university.
- Professional license in a recognized licensing board (or international equivalent) is preferred.
- 15+ years of progressive work experience, including supervision, preferably in project and staff design engineering or related fields such as startup, field engineering, or plant operation in large industrial plants.
- Technical knowledge of mechanical systems, engineering calculations, and applications of engineering software.
- Knowledge of construction practices, engineering methods, and industry standards and codes.
- Proficient in oral and written communication.
- Experience with modular design projects is highly desirable.
- Prior experience in planning and executing greenfield or brownfield projects in segments such as semiconductor, AI data centers, life sciences/pharma, or EV batteries.
- Must have the right to work and remain in the US without sponsorship.
