Operating Engineer
Talascend is currently seeking an Operating Engineer for a contract opportunity with our client in Plainfield, Indiana.
Overview
The operating engineer will be responsible for supporting building systems operation, maintenance, and repair to ensure reliable and efficient facility performance during a fixed-term assignment. This role involves hands-on technical execution and site reliability within an industrial environment.
Responsibilities
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical infrastructure
- Perform routine inspections, identify maintenance needs, and execute preventative & reactive maintenance
- Support site mobilization activities such as asset validation, condition assessments, and establishing maintenance baselines
- Utilize CMMS platforms to receive, update, document, and close work orders; ensure accurate data entry
- Coordinate and monitor vendor support, ensuring quality and safety standards are met
- Participate in safety inspections, support corrective actions, and maintain a safe working environment
- Conduct regular building rounds, inspect mechanical/electrical rooms, dock areas, and lighting conditions
- Communicate effectively with FM, vendors, and site stakeholders, explaining issues clearly and practically
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certification or trade school preferred
- 3 or more years of experience in building operations or facilities maintenance
- Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical, and mechanical systems
- Experience with CMMS systems (preferred Corrigo)
- Ability to troubleshoot and perform repairs on building systems
- Demonstrated ability to perform the duties of this position through relevant experience, training, or education.
