Nuclear Vessel Design Engineer
Talascend is currently seeking a Nuclear Vessel Design Engineer for a remote, contract opportunity with our client.
Overview
The role involves creating design solutions for the development of reactor structures and components for next-generation advanced nuclear reactors, with a focus on vessel design and compliance with nuclear codes and standards.
Responsibilities
- Perform detailed design, analysis, and documentation for nuclear vessels, including nozzles, flanges, support brackets, and other support elements used in nuclear facilities
- Develop and maintain design specifications, calculations, load evaluations, and qualification reports in accordance with applicable codes
- Prepare engineering design packages, including performing or reviewing design calculations for accuracy and code compliance
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to define design requirements, resolve technical issues, and optimize component performance
- Interface with internal quality teams, third-party reviewers, and regulatory bodies to support audits, design reviews, and certification processes
- Support material selection, fabrication requirements, inspection criteria, and acceptance standards for nuclear vessels
- Participate in engineering change processes, nonconformance evaluations, and corrective actions as needed
- Maintain current knowledge of industry standards, codes, and best practices related to nuclear vessel design
Qualifications
- S. in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline from an accredited university
- Minimum of six years of equipment/component design experience for level 10 OR minimum of ten years for level 11; relevant M.S. degree credited as two years of experience
- Experience in design for manufacturability and assembly
- Experience in finite element stress analysis, mechanical analysis methods, and using analysis tools like ANSYS
- Excellent writing and communication skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with creative thinking abilities
- Working experience with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section III and/or VIII division 2
- Ability to work independently to solve challenging problems
- Ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently during a workweek
- Familiarity with CAD software, preferably SolidWorks
- High degree of trust, integrity, and teamwork orientation
