Talascend is currently seeking a Nuclear Equipment Design Engineer for a remote, contract opportunity with our client.

Overview

This role involves creating design solutions for reactor structures and components, supporting design development, and ensuring compliance with industry standards. The engineer will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support the development of next-generation advanced nuclear reactors.

Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed design, analysis, and documentation for pressure boundaries and internals in accordance with ASME Section III.
  • Develop and maintain design specifications, calculations, load evaluations, and qualification reports while ensuring compliance with relevant codes and standards.
  • Prepare and certify engineering design packages, including performing or reviewing calculations for accuracy and code compliance.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to define requirements, resolve technical issues, and optimize component performance.
  • Interface with quality teams, third-party reviewers, and regulatory bodies to support audits, reviews, and certifications.
  • Support material selection, fabrication requirements, inspection criteria, and acceptance standards for critical components.
  • Participate in engineering change processes, nonconformance evaluations, and corrective actions.
  • Maintain current knowledge of industry standards, NRC guidance, and best practices.
  • Provide technical mentorship to junior engineers as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent (additional relevant master's degree credited as two years' experience).
  • Minimum of 10 years of equipment or component design experience; active Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required.
  • Working experience with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section III.
  • Proven experience certifying Design Specifications and Design Reports for nuclear pressure-retaining components.
  • Deep understanding of ASME Section III, NQA-1, and NRC regulations.
  • Experience in finite element stress analysis, mechanical analysis methods, and tools like ANSYS.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a creative approach.
  • Demonstrated trust, integrity, openness in communication, and team-oriented mindset.
