Senior Applications Engineer
Talascend is currently seeking an Senior Applications Engineer for a remote, contract opportunity with our client.
Overview
The senior applications engineer is responsible for managing, supporting, and optimizing enterprise business applications supporting plant operations and related enterprise functions in a regulated environment. The role involves application administration, technical leadership, system integration, and ensuring compliance across various platforms and environments.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary administrative resource for enterprise applications supporting plant operations, including ERP/EAM systems, with ownership of digital work execution and directives applications.
- Plan, deploy, configure, and maintain enterprise applications in Windows and Linux environments.
- Perform regular maintenance such as patching, plugin updates, and configuration adjustments.
- Provide Tier 2/3 support, investigating and resolving application issues, and mentoring support staff.
- Lead the conversion of procedures into digital instructions using platform tooling, optimizing content for performance, usability, and compliance.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to gather feedback and continually improve digital content for operational use.
- Develop and maintain governance and system documentation for deployment, audit, and compliance purposes.
- Support system integration with IoT, GIS, SCADA, financial, and HR systems to enable end-to-end digital work execution.
- Implement automation in deployment, configuration, and monitoring to enhance system reliability and efficiency.
- Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and prevent service disruptions.
- Participate in business continuity planning, disaster recovery testing, and cybersecurity compliance efforts.
- Support audits and maintain application controls in accordance with regulatory standards such as NQA-1, FERC, NERC, and SOX.
- Lead or contribute to system lifecycle initiatives including implementation, upgrades, and retirements, ensuring minimal operational disruption.
- Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences, fostering teamwork and trust.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, engineering, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
- 7+ years of experience managing enterprise or business applications, with at least 5 years administering ERP/EAM platforms in regulated industries such as utilities or manufacturing.
- Strong understanding of plant operations and business processes in regulated environments.
- Hands-on experience with ERP/EAM systems such as Oracle, IBM Maximo, or Asset Suite.
- Proficiency in SQL, scripting languages (PowerShell, Python, Bash), and integration tools (APIs, ETL, middleware).
- Own and support applications built on Node.js, Java, hosted on Apache Tomcat.
- Experience with cloud platforms like Azure and AWS, and hybrid cloud/on-premises environments.
- Familiarity with ITSM tools such as ServiceNow and ITIL best practices.
- Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices for enterprise systems.
- Proven ability to use digital tools to author, test, and optimize computer-based procedures.
- Strong knowledge of procedure development, work package creation, and work process documentation in a regulated industry.
