Health, Safety, and Environmental Specialist
Talascend is currently seeking a Health, Safety, and Environmental Specialist for a contract opportunity with our client in Winnemucca, Nevada.
Overview
In this role, you will provide technical oversight of the project’s ES&H compliance activities through inspection of project field execution activities. You will assist project and construction management in implementing and complying with project safety requirements and in addressing ES&H issues as they arise during project execution.
Responsibilities
- Provide assistance in a wide variety of environmental, safety, and health disciplines to facilitate implementation of ES&H program and management system, including aiding compliance with standards, regulatory requirements, and contractual commitments.
- Assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of programs, systems, and procedures necessary for the safety and health of employees and protection of the environment and communities.
- Maintain ES&H databases, including incident events, audit/assessment findings, and corrective actions.
- Perform statistical analysis of ES&H data to help identify performance trends and contributing factors as part of continuous improvement.
- Identify and support software systems and electronic innovations used by ES&H personnel.
- Lead teams in conducting risk assessments, studies, mitigation planning, and monitoring in response to ES&H issues.
- Prepare communications, reports, and documents for program execution and records retention.
- Assist with incident notifications, lead investigations, and prepare incident investigation reports.
- Recommend and implement improvements in processes, procedures, and work activities to minimize hazard potential.
- Participate in and potentially lead employee training, emergency preparedness, and quality assurance programs.
- Research moderately complex issues and provide regulatory interpretation and technical advice.
- Support ES&H field and office personnel across all ES&H disciplines.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree (or international equivalent) related to environmental, safety, health, or science-related discipline.
- 5-8 years of relevant experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience.
- Knowledge of OSHA 1926 and 1910 required.
- Understanding of ES&H core processes.
- Ability to perform root cause analysis for incident investigations.
- Experience conducting project contractor orientation and ES&H audits.
- Knowledge of safety programs, principles, and methodologies.
- Familiarity with national safety laws, regulations, industry standards, and best practices.
- Understanding of hazardous materials and risk mitigation mechanisms.
- Experience in ES&H assessments/inspections during construction.
- Experience managing or overseeing ES&H subcontractors or consultants.
