HVAC/R Technician
Talascend is currently seeking an HVAC/R Technician for a contract opportunity with our client in Jackson, Michigan.
Overview
Operates, inspects, and maintains all HVAC, refrigeration, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and production equipment and systems in assigned facilities to obtain the most efficient operating results and life expectancy. Ensures equipment is maintained in an energy-efficient and safe manner, minimizing downtime through proactive repairs and record-keeping. Performs inspections and repairs to interior and exterior areas, including walls, flooring, fixtures, roofing, and lighting, with a strong focus on HVAC/R systems.
Responsibilities
- Perform ongoing preventive and repair work orders on facility mechanical, electrical, and other systems and components.
- Maintain, operate, and repair HVAC/R systems, electrical distribution equipment, plumbing systems, building interiors and exteriors, grounds, and production equipment.
- Familiarize with equipment and proper operational methods.
- Complete hazard assessments and adhere to safety procedures.
- Maintain compliance with all applicable ordinances, codes, and laws.
- Complete safety training sessions and practice defensive driving at all times.
- Possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license.
- Submit P-card receipts daily and update work order statuses in real time.
- Utilize CMMS systems such as Corrigo for work documentation.
- Perform vehicle safety inspections and escalate issues as needed.
- Attend work and safety meetings as required.
- Perform additional duties and tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum of four (4) years of technical experience in building engineering, with a focus on HVAC/R, plumbing, electrical, and production equipment repair and maintenance.
- Strong knowledge of system design and applications.
- Certifications/licenses: HVAC technicians must have a Universal CFC recovery certification (or obtain within 90 days of employment), licenses as required by jurisdiction.
- Preferred: 3rd party certification, working knowledge of Word and Excel, and two years of trades school or documented apprenticeship in electrical systems, refrigeration, and HVAC.
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
Physical Work Requirements
- Lifting up to 80 lbs.
- Working from heights, including climbing ladders up to 30 feet while carrying tools.
- Frequent climbing, bending, lifting, kneeling, stooping, and working overhead.
- Working in adverse conditions such as extreme cold or heat.
- Driving for long periods and responding to on-call demands.
