Talascend is currently seeking a Controls Engineer for a contract opportunity with our client in Mason, Ohio.

Overview

The Controls Engineer implements electrical projects as the lead engineer for integrated systems or sub-systems. The role involves project planning, reporting, technical implementation, and leadership in automation projects, primarily on-site with extensive travel across the US to customer sites.

Responsibilities

  • Apply prescriptive methodology to project tasks
  • Collaborate with engineering teams
  • Execute project tasks and prepare or update reports and documentation
  • Attend weekly team meetings and review scheduled tasks and timelines
  • Lead automation projects for material handling clients
  • Develop and implement PLC code for material handling equipment
  • Review AutoCAD layouts and schematics to program projects
  • Test PLC prototypes internally and on-site for new or changed projects
  • Assess programming and commissioning methods to meet internal standards
  • Execute all test plans on-site, including internal and customer acceptance testing
  • Monitor progress and report regularly on project timelines and scope management

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Minimum of 4 years of controls engineering experience in a similar role
  • Leadership experience (project lead, manager, supervisor, or team lead)
  • Ability and willingness to travel over 85% of the time
  • Experience with e-commerce material handling systems
  • Proficiency in programmable logic controller (PLC) programming and electrical design for Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Beckhoff PLCs
  • Knowledge of variable frequency drive (VFD) programming and setup
  • Experience with network protocols, warehouse control system interfaces, and protocols
  • Expertise in human-machine interface (HMI) system design
  • Experience with scanner and machine vision system interfaces
  • Project planning and budgeting skills
  • Effective writing and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with Logix 5000, Studio 5000, ZoneFlex Configurator, RSLinx, FactoryTalk View, B&R Automation Studio, AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, SST Profibus Configuration tool, Ignition, SOPAS, Datalogic DataMan

  • Ability to apply broad knowledge of professional discipline or advanced specific technical practices
  • Self-motivated with minimal supervision and proactive initiative
  • Flexibility to adapt working methods following defined procedures
  • Strong collaboration skills with engineering teams
  • Decisiveness in complex situations
  • Technical problem-solving skills and ability to evaluate solutions
  • 2-5 years of experience in controls engineering
