Talascend is currently seeking a Mechanical Drafter for a contract opportunity with our client in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Overview

The Mechanical Drafter is responsible for providing CAD drafting and documentation support for the design, development, and improvement of mechanical systems, components, and equipment used in client's robotic field joint coating systems, pipeline equipment, and specialized machinery. This role involves working closely with Mechanical Engineers and cross-functional teams to produce accurate, detailed 3D models and 2D drawings that support engineering, manufacturing, and field operations.

Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain detailed 2D drawings and 3D CAD models (parts and assemblies) using SolidWorks or similar CAD tools.
  • Update and revise drawings based on engineering changes, manufacturing feedback, and field modifications.
  • Ensure drawings meet applicable drafting standards, including proper dimensioning and tolerancing (ASME Y14.5 preferred).
  • Maintain accurate drawing records, revisions, and controlled documentation.
  • Support Mechanical Engineers with layout development, detailing, and design modifications.
  • Assist in creating models and drawings that consider manufacturability, assembly, and serviceability.
  • Convert sketches, concepts, and engineering markups into complete drawing packages.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree, technical diploma, or equivalent experience in Mechanical Drafting, Engineering Technology, or related field required.
  • Minimum of 2–4 years of experience in mechanical drafting or CAD design support preferred.
  • Experience supporting industrial equipment, machinery, or automated systems preferred.
  • Basic understanding of engineering terminology, mathematical concepts, and manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to work independently with moderate supervision while supporting engineering teams and adapting to changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Proficiency in 3D modeling and 2D drafting using SolidWorks (preferred) and/or AutoCAD.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, sketches, and technical documentation.
  • Working knowledge of drafting standards and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Basic understanding of mechanical systems, materials, and manufacturing processes.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general computer applications.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Good communication skills and ability to collaborate within cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and adjust priorities based on business needs.
