Lead Mechanical Design Engineer
Talascend is currently seeking a Lead Mechanical Design Engineer for a contract opportunity with our client in Phoenix, Arizona.
Overview
This role involves leading the mechanical design and development of advanced aerospace components and systems, ensuring innovative, reliable, and high-performance solutions that meet industry standards and customer expectations. The engineer will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and provide technical leadership in aerospace product development.
Responsibilities
- Lead the mechanical design and development of aerospace components and systems from concept through production
- Collaborate with systems engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams to ensure design feasibility, manufacturability, and compliance with aerospace standards
- Develop and review detailed mechanical drawings, specifications, and design documentation
- Conduct design reviews, risk assessments, and failure mode analyses to ensure robust and reliable designs
- Mentor and guide junior engineers and provide technical leadership within the mechanical design team
- Engage with customers and suppliers to align design requirements and resolve technical challenges
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field
- Extensive experience in mechanical design engineering within aerospace or related industries, focusing on complex component and system design
- Proficiency in FEA software such as ANSYS APDL or ANSYS Workbench
- Proficiency in 1D Beam based FEA technique
- Proficiency in Rotor Dynamics & Shafting Structural Analyses
- Ability to lead design reviews, conduct risk assessments, and mentor engineering teams effectively
- Proven leadership experience in managing mechanical design projects in aerospace environments
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Familiarity with systems engineering principles and cross-disciplinary collaboration
- Experience with product lifecycle management (PLM) tools and aerospace certification processes
- Knowledge of aerospace materials, manufacturing processes, and design standards such as AS9100 and MIL-STD
- Experience with design for manufacturability, tolerance analysis, and mechanical testing methodologies
