Building Automation System Operator
Talascend is currently seeking a Building Automation System Operator for a contract opportunity with our client in San Jose, California.
Overview
This role involves monitoring and managing building automation systems to ensure optimal performance, while providing oversight to the operator team in a dynamic facilities environment.
Responsibilities
- Monitor alarm screens across various building management systems to ensure systems operate within specified parameters
- Manage and dispatch alarms on BMS systems, prioritizing critical issues and coordinating responses
- Review pass-down communications and emails from previous shifts to maintain situational awareness
- Review open work orders and alarms to identify trends and recurring issues
- Notify end users about equipment in alarm status during off-hours
- Escalate site alarms to appropriate management and respond to major incidents impacting site operations
- Coordinate and administer client-specific work permitting processes
- Check in/out vendors and coordinate escort services
- Verify vendors’ credentials and track engineer’s work or preventive maintenance on shift logs
- Assist engineering in remote troubleshooting of units and machines
- Respond to requests via Webex chat communication
- Assist departments in creating or rerouting work orders
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working with building automation or HVAC systems
- Strong technical and communication skills
- Ability to perform remote troubleshooting and manage alarms effectively
- Demonstrated ability to perform the duties of this position through relevant experience, training, or education
Preferred Qualifications
- Trade school education with an emphasis on HVAC systems
- Specialized training or certification in building automation systems or HVAC
- Experience working with CMMS platforms
- Background leading or supervising technical teams in a 24/7 environment
- Familiarity with multiple BMS platforms beyond WebCTRL
- Experience conducting employee performance evaluations and implementing progressive discipline
