Talascend is currently seeking a Material Handling System Technician for a contract opportunity with our client in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
Overview
This role involves supporting daily operations at a high-volume distribution center by responding to and safely clearing material-handling system jams. The technician will work closely with the operations team to maintain equipment uptime and ensure the safe, efficient flow of materials within the facility.
Responsibilities
- Respond promptly to calls from operations for conveyor and material-handling system jams
- Safely clear elevated jams, including those requiring access from aerial lifts
- Respond to and clear jams occurring at or leading into balers
- Follow all safety procedures and equipment-specific work instructions
- Perform Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures when required before accessing equipment
- Operate aerial lifts safely and in accordance with site requirements
- Inspect equipment and surrounding areas for safety hazards during jam response
- Coordinate with operations and site leadership to restore equipment to service
- Communicate status updates and respond using a provided radio
- Document jams, actions taken, and equipment issues in IRIS (CMMS)
- Identify and report recurring or abnormal equipment conditions
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment
- Support overall facility uptime and operational efficiency
- Work staggered shifts to provide coverage across operational hours
Qualifications
- Previous experience working in a distribution center, warehouse, manufacturing, industrial, or material-handling environment
- Experience working around conveyors, automated material-handling equipment, or similar systems preferred
- Aerial lift certification or ability to obtain site-required certification (will be certified onsite)
- Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) certification or training required (will be certified onsite)
- Ability to safely work at elevated heights and from aerial lifts
- Strong understanding of workplace safety procedures
- Ability to respond quickly and effectively to operational calls
- Comfortable using a two-way radio for communication
- Basic computer skills and ability to learn/use a CMMS such as IRIS
- Ability to accurately document work performed and equipment issues
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Ability to work a staggered shift schedule based on operational needs
Preferred Qualifications
- OSHA or other applicable safety certifications
This position is based in a fast-paced distribution center environment, with frequent interaction with automated equipment and operations at elevated heights. The role requires working from aerial lifts and in areas with varying temperatures, noise levels, and operating equipment. The technician will stand, walk, climb, bend, reach, and respond to operational calls throughout the shift.
