Talascend is currently seeking a Senior Maintenance Technician for a contract opportunity with our client in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Overview

The Senior Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining and troubleshooting critical utility systems, including boilers, chillers, cooling towers, and HVAC systems, ensuring safe and efficient operation within a high-performance facility. The role requires technical expertise in preventative maintenance, repair, and system optimization, supporting seamless operational functioning.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine building rounds to inspect utility equipment, mechanical rooms, and monitor operational parameters via Building Automation Systems (BAS) and gauges
  • Execute preventative maintenance programs on boilers, chillers, cooling towers, pumps, motors, compressors, and control valves
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and control system failures; perform repairs to restore systems to optimal performance
  • Collaborate with utility system engineers, mechanics, and contractors to operate equipment efficiently and maintain environmental control
  • Conduct chemical testing and treatment of boiler, cooling tower, and closed-loop water systems in accordance with established programs
  • Complete work orders, maintenance logs, and documentation in the CMMS; maintain organized inventory of parts and tools
  • Strictly follow safety procedures including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) protocols and ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards (NFPA, ASME, EPA)

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Philadelphia Class A Boiler Operator License (mandatory)
  • EPA Section 608 Universal Refrigerant Certification (mandatory)
  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience operating and maintaining large-scale commercial or industrial utility systems
  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills with the ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and manuals
  • Proficiency with Building Automation Systems (BAS) such as Siemens and Vaisala
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds, work in confined and elevated spaces, and stand, walk, or climb ladders in various environmental conditions

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree or Vocational/Technical training in HVAC, Refrigeration, or related field
  • HVAC Technician Certification
  • Experience with Carrier Chillers, Cleaver Brooks Boilers, and Atlas Copco compressors
  • Life Sciences or Pharmaceutical facility experience
  • Strong knowledge of steam generation, chilled water production, and air handling systems
  • Experience utilizing diagnostic tools and test equipment such as multimeters, pressure gauges, and flow meters
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving skills, and basic computer proficiency for CMMS work order management
