Senior HVAC Technician
Talascend is currently seeking a Senior HVAC Technician for a contract opportunity with our client in Charleston, South Carolina.
Overview
The Senior HVAC Technician is responsible for installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and optimization of commercial and industrial HVAC systems. The role includes providing technical leadership, mentoring junior technicians, ensuring safety compliance, and delivering high-quality service to clients.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain HVAC equipment such as chillers, boilers, air handling units, rooftop units, VRF systems, VAV systems, heat pumps, cooling towers, and building automation systems
- Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on mechanical equipment
- Analyze system performance and recommend energy-efficient solutions
- Respond to emergency service calls and equipment failures
- Install, modify, and commission HVAC systems and controls
- Verify equipment operation and ensure systems meet design specifications
- Interpret blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals
- Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and facility personnel during projects
- Provide guidance and mentorship to HVAC technicians and apprentices
- Assist in training team members on best practices, safety procedures, and troubleshooting methods
- Lead complex repair and maintenance activities
- Support workforce planning and daily work assignments
- Adhere to safety and compliance requirements, including OSHA and EPA standards
- Maintain EPA certification and refrigerant handling procedures
- Conduct job hazard assessments and promote safe work practices
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations
- Complete work orders, inspection reports, and service documentation
- Maintain records of maintenance activities, equipment history, and repairs
- Utilize CMMS for work tracking and reporting
- Communicate professionally with clients and stakeholders, explaining technical issues clearly and building positive relationships
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; technical school or HVAC certification preferred
- Minimum 7-10 years of commercial or industrial HVAC experience
- EPA Universal Certification required
- Strong knowledge of HVAC controls, refrigeration systems, electrical systems, and mechanical equipment
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation
- Valid driver's license with satisfactory driving record
- Ability to pass background screening and drug testing, if required
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree in HVAC Technology, Mechanical Systems, or related field
- Experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS) such as Siemens, Johnson Controls, Honeywell, or Trane
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
- Manufacturer certifications from Trane, Carrier, Daikin, York, or equivalent
- Experience in healthcare, data centers, industrial facilities, or mission-critical environments
