Talascend is currently seeking a Shipping and Receiving Specialist for a contract opportunity with our client in Houston, Texas.
Overview
The Shipping and Receiving Specialist supports high-volume logistics operations, managing domestic and international shipments, inventory accuracy, and resolving shipping discrepancies. The role requires proficiency in SAP, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Process and coordinate high-volume inbound and outbound shipments, ensuring compliance with policies and regulations.
- Prepare and review shipping and receiving documentation, including packing lists, bills of lading, import/export documents, and others.
- Utilize SAP and carrier systems to process transactions and support order fulfillment.
- Investigate and resolve shipping and receiving issues such as shortages, damages, and documentation errors.
- Coordinate with carriers, customs brokers, suppliers, customers, and internal teams to facilitate timely movement of materials.
- Partner with Customer Service, Project Management, Finance, Procurement, and Operations to meet delivery schedules.
- Manage return material authorizations (RMA) and returned goods processes with proper documentation.
- Maintain inventory integrity through accurate receiving, transaction processing, cycle counts, and reconciliation activities.
- Generate and analyze shipping, receiving, inventory, and performance reports.
- Prioritize and expedite critical shipments to meet customer and operational needs.
- Identify process improvements to enhance efficiency and throughput in shipping and receiving.
- Maintain compliance with safety, quality, trade, and company procedures.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in shipping, receiving, warehouse, logistics, or supply chain environments
- Experience handling high-volume domestic and international shipments
- Strong SAP experience with inventory and shipping transactions
- Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve shipping, receiving, and inventory discrepancies
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Good teamwork, flexibility, and initiative
- Professional interface with vendors, customers, and internal teams
- Effective time management skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in manufacturing, distribution, aerospace, or industrial environments
- Knowledge of customs documentation, import/export regulations, and freight forwarding
- Experience with inventory control, cycle counting, and root cause analysis
- Lean, Continuous Improvement, or Six Sigma experience
- Forklift certification and warehouse equipment experience
