Talascend is currently seeking a Facilities Maintenance Technician for a contract opportunity with our client in South San Francisco, California.

Overview

This role supports the daily operations of a commercial facility, ensuring safety, functionality, and comfort for occupants by participating in preventive maintenance, responding to service requests, and supporting building systems.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain secure access control, conduct daily site inspections, and report security incidents and hazards immediately
  • Escort vendors throughout the facility to ensure compliance with protocols
  • Respond to after-hours alarms and coordinate with emergency response agencies as necessary
  • Follow all safety protocols, participate in safety inspections, and ensure compliance with OSHA standards and local codes
  • Perform monthly inspections of eyewash stations, safety showers, fire extinguishers, and complete documentation
  • Assist in routine preventive maintenance on HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems
  • Conduct daily inspections of building equipment and systems to identify potential issues and document findings
  • Execute work orders efficiently and document completion accurately in a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS)
  • Troubleshoot and repair basic electrical, plumbing, and HVAC issues
  • Coordinate with external contractors and vendors for specialized repairs and maintenance
  • Respond promptly to emergency service calls and urgent facility issues
  • Perform minor repairs, painting, general upkeep, and support meeting/event setup and breakdown
  • Provide excellent customer service to clients, visitors, and building management
  • Respond to client service requests in a timely and professional manner
  • Support in reading and interpreting floorplans, technical documents, and equipment manuals
  • Monitor and adjust building automation systems and environmental management systems as needed
  • Maintain accurate documentation and reporting of all maintenance activities

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2-3 years experience in facilities maintenance or related field
  • Basic knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems
  • Hands-on knowledge of tools, equipment, and supplies used in facilities maintenance
  • Basic knowledge of chemical and laboratory gas safety
  • Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment
  • Ability to read floorplans and technical documents/manuals
  • Strong work ethic and dependability
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize multiple tasks
  • Excellent communication and customer service abilities
  • Ability to learn and operate basic computer programs including Microsoft Office Suite
  • Physical ability to perform bending, lifting (50+ lbs.), and handling tools

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in pharmaceutical or biotechnology facilities
  • Experience working in a GxP environment with a strong understanding of GDP principles
  • Experience supporting facilities with laboratories, clean rooms, and supporting systems
  • Experience with CMMS, BAS, and Environmental Monitoring systems
  • Relevant trade certifications or technical training
