Talascend is currently seeking a Piping Field Engineer Specialist for a long-term contract opportunity in Brownsville, TX.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Piping Field Engineer Specialist will provide field engineering support for piping construction, quality verification, testing, and system turnover on a large-scale LNG project.
This is a hands-on, field-based role focused on piping walkdowns, drawing verification, punch lists, test packages, pressure testing, and mechanical completion. The successful candidate will verify installed piping against P&IDs, isometrics, plot plans, and project specifications and help resolve field discrepancies to ensure systems are ready for testing and turnover.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct piping system and test package field walkdowns and verify installation against P&IDs, isometrics, plot plans, and specifications.
- Inspect piping components including valves, fittings, flanges, supports, and tie-ins, including routing, slope, orientation, accessibility, and tagging.
- Identify discrepancies and create, track, and close punch-list items.
- Support quality inspections, including flange alignment, bolt-up, material traceability, pipe cleanliness, and NCR documentation.
- Prepare and verify piping test packages, system boundaries, and test readiness.
- Support hydrostatic/pneumatic testing, flushing, cleaning, mechanical completion, and system turnover.
- Provide technical support to construction teams and coordinate with Superintendents, Field Engineering, Quality, and Engineering.
- Assist with field installation issues, design discrepancies, and constructability concerns.
- Maintain walkdown reports, inspection records, punch lists, and system readiness documentation.
- Participate in job briefings, toolbox talks, safety meetings, and follow project safety and quality requirements.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 5–12 years of relevant piping, mechanical, construction, or field engineering experience.
- Experience with process piping construction/installation; LNG, refinery, petrochemical, or other heavy industrial experience preferred.
- Working knowledge of ASME B31.3 and applicable piping codes and standards.
- Strong ability to read and interpret P&IDs, piping isometrics, and plot plans.
- Experience with field walkdowns, punch lists, piping testing, test packages, mechanical completion, or turnover.
- Strong communication, documentation, and coordination skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word.
PHYSICAL & SITE REQUIREMENTS
This is a field-based position on an active construction site. Must be able to:
- Walk extensively throughout the site in high heat and humidity.
- Climb ladders, scaffolding, and elevated platforms and work on uneven surfaces.
- Work in elevated areas and small or confined spaces.
- Wear required PPE, including fall protection and other task-specific equipment.
- Perform occasional lifting as required.
- Work a flexible schedule, including night shifts, split shifts, overtime, or extended hours as project needs require.
- Safely enter and exit the project site.
