Talascend is currently seeking a Building Maintenance Technician for a contract opportunity with our client in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Overview
The Building Maintenance Technician is responsible for operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing facility equipment across various systems. The role requires technical expertise in at least one craft area such as electrical, HVAC, piping/plumbing, or central utility plant operations, with the ability to perform multi-skilled tasks to ensure the smooth operation of building systems.
Responsibilities
- Perform maintenance, monitoring, and repairs to mechanical, plumbing, structural, fire, life safety, and control systems to ensure compliance with standards
- Manage facility services, preventative maintenance, purchasing, inventory control, contracted maintenance, and general upkeep
- Maintain HVAC systems and related equipment by cleaning, inspecting, calibrating, and replacing parts for optimal performance
- Record readings and make adjustments to ensure proper operation of equipment
- Follow departmental policies for safe storage, usage, and disposal of hazardous materials and maintain a clean, safe workplace
- Perform periodic checks of tools and inventory
- Oversee the quality and pricing of maintenance work performed by external contractors
- Perform physical tasks such as bending, kneeling, squatting, standing, reaching, and laying to access equipment components
- Work in both indoor and outdoor environments, including controlled spaces like labs and cleanrooms
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- 2-4 years of experience maintaining and repairing commercial building systems
- EPA 608 Universal Certification
- Ability to analyze and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems
- Computer literacy, including proficiency with Word and Excel
- Ability to work independently and provide customer service in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in commercial property or corporate office environments
- Two years of trades schooling in electrical system design, refrigeration, and HVAC
- Knowledge of office furniture installation and repair
- Experience with roofing repair
- Skills in locksmithing and door hardware systems
