Talascend is currently seeking a Facilities Maintenance Technician for a contract opportunity with our client in Costa Mesa, California.
Overview
The role involves overseeing facility operations and engineering functions at a research and development site, ensuring the performance of building systems, safety protocols, and maintenance activities. The position includes supervising engineering staff, managing preventive maintenance programs, and maintaining high standards of operational excellence in a commercial or industrial environment.
Responsibilities
- Provide joint supervision of engineering department staff and manage delegation of preventive maintenance programs, equipment installation, repair, and maintenance.
- Perform comprehensive equipment inspections and ensure proper maintenance adherence to standards.
- Maintain, monitor, and perform preventive maintenance on all building systems including fire/life safety, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, generators, and emergency backup systems.
- Analyze system performance, troubleshoot malfunctions, make necessary adjustments, and maintain operational records to ensure continuous facility operations.
- Monitor building management systems and respond immediately to all alarms, taking corrective actions or initiating follow-up procedures.
- Schedule and coordinate emergency repair activities based on priority and available personnel capabilities.
- Manage site operations and various permits, including facility work permits, hot work permits, and roof access permits.
- Ensure the availability of an adequate operating inventory of tools and supplies, including preparing and submitting purchase requests and developing sources for stock materials.
- Foster safety culture and ensure adherence to company and industry standard practices.
- Participate in rotating on-call schedule for after-hours emergency response.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training preferred.
- Journeyman or master-level experience in research and development, industrial, or commercial facility maintenance.
- Experience supervising or managing facilities operations.
- Knowledge of building systems including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire safety, and backup generators.
- Ability to perform equipment inspections, troubleshoot malfunctions, and maintain detailed operational records.
- Strong safety awareness and adherence to safety standards.
- Effective communication and team leadership skills.
- Ability to work independently and respond to emergency situations promptly.
- Demonstrated ability to perform the duties of this position through relevant experience, training, or education.
- Additional preferred qualifications include experience with BAS systems, permits management, and inventory control.
