Talascend is currently seeking an Associate Distribution Engineer for a contract opportunity with our client in South Park Township, Pennsylvania.
Overview
This role involves electric utility design engineering, where the associate will develop work packages, perform engineering calculations, and support construction activities related to distribution systems. The position offers diverse project experience, growth opportunities, and a balance of field and office work.
Responsibilities
- Develop design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems operating from 4kV through 138kV
- Ensure compliance with safety requirements and design standards
- Travel to sites as needed for inspections and support
- Perform engineering calculations such as structural analysis, conductor sags and tensions, and voltage drop
- Develop permitting documents for various authorities
- Support post-construction reviews to ensure standards are met
- Conduct root cause analysis of outages and recommend mitigation measures
Qualifications
- Completed Bachelor of Science in an Engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial) from an ABET accredited institution
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
- Ability to utilize a personal vehicle for travel
- Willingness to perform both field and office work; ability to work outdoors
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with distribution design tools such as BOUD, Pole Foreman, SOCKET, Spida-Calc or similar
- Experience using CAD tools, MicroStation, and/or GIS
- Knowledge of NESC standards and design standards
- Professional attributes such as a collaborative attitude, inclusivity, positive outlook, and professional demeanor
