Talascend is currently seeking a Steelmaking Operations Supervisor for a direct hire opportunity with our client in Calvert, Alabama.
Overview
The role involves leading operations in the ladle refining area of the steelmaking team during shifts, managing a team of operators and ensuring the achievement of business goals. The supervisor oversees safety, quality, and continuous improvement initiatives within the area.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and direct operations personnel on daily duties
- Enforce company policies through coaching and disciplinary actions
- Perform shift turnover with previous and following shifts
- Work closely with maintenance team to diagnose problems
- Engage in continuous process improvement
- Manage personnel work schedules, attendance, and timekeeping
- Schedule and assign required training for direct reports
- Document and report mill issues with root cause analysis and solutions
- Ensure safety, order, and cleanliness of the work area
- Demonstrate company values of safety, teamwork, accountability, relationships, and sustainability
- Foster a safe and healthy work environment and support quality commitments
- Promote a culture of trust and respect within the team
Qualifications
- Minimum of high school diploma or GED required
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and/or 4 years of military leadership experience and/or 4 years of progressive leadership experience in steelmaking
- At least 2 years of experience in steelmaking (melting, refining, casting)
- Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office
- Advanced process control knowledge
- Experience with Dayforce and/or SAP preferred
- Demonstrated ability to perform the duties of this position through relevant experience, training, or education
