Talascend is currently seeking an Building Operating Engineer for a contract opportunity with our client in St. Louis, Missouri.
Overview
The building operating engineer leads the operation, inspection, and maintenance of mechanical, HVAC, electrical, and plumbing equipment and systems with minimal supervision. This role supports an engineering team serving an 89,000-square-foot office and life science building and requires regular on-site presence.
Responsibilities
- Complete assigned tasks, including painting, pressure washing, lighting system maintenance, plumbing, HVAC systems, water treatment, locksmith work, and general maintenance as permitted by licensing requirements.
- Assist with supervising and implementing the preventive maintenance program.
- Maintain the work order system daily and complete tenant service requests.
- Assist with training and supervising engineering team members to expand team capabilities.
- Support on-call and emergency response situations.
- Troubleshoot building systems, including electrical, DDC, and pneumatic controls.
- Comply with all safety procedures.
- Participate in ongoing technical, safety, and operational process training programs.
- Complete other assigned projects and tasks.
Qualifications
- Five to 10 years of related work experience, particularly in repair, maintenance, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, or carpentry.
- Trade school education, union training, military service, or college education is desirable.
- Universal CFC EPA certification or willingness to obtain it within the first year.
- Leadership or supervisory experience.
- Experience using Microsoft Office, including Word, Outlook, Excel, and Teams.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Comfort using ladders up to 30 feet tall.
- Ability to frequently climb, bend, kneel, lift, and drive.
- Strong customer service, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a life science, laboratory, or medical office setting.
- Commercial or industrial experience.
Shift
The schedule is Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with rotating on-call coverage every other week.
