A Talascend client is seeking an experienced FEED Study Engineer for a direct hire role based in Baytown, TX.

Job Summary:


We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced FEED (Front-End Engineering Design) Studies Engineer to join our hydrogen systems manufacturing business. In this role, you will be responsible for leading and coordinating with client EPC’s the early-phase engineering and design activities for hydrogen production and assembly projects. Your expertise will be critical in ensuring the successful development and implementation of cutting-edge hydrogen manufacturing processes at client sites.

This profile will play a vital role in shaping the early stages of hydrogen projects, ensuring their feasibility and setting the foundation for successful execution.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Initiation:
  • Collaborate with project stakeholders, including clients, project managers, and technical teams, to define project scope and objectives.
  • Conduct feasibility assessments to ensure the effective integration of hydrogen manufacturing systems into client projects.

Conceptual Design:
  • Develop preliminary process flow diagrams (PFDs), P&ID, , and material balance calculations for integration of hydrogen production into client projects.
  • Identify potential technologies and process configurations suitable for the project.
  • Conduct high-level cost estimations and risk assessments.
  • Lead HAZOP studies

Front-End Engineering Design (FEED):
  • Lead the detailed engineering and design activities for Hydrogen systems during the FEED phase.
  • Prepare comprehensive engineering specifications, including P&IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams) and equipment specifications.
  • Collaborate with process, mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation engineers to ensure all aspects of the project are addressed.
  • Determine the technical requirements for procurement and construction.

Material Selection and Equipment Sourcing:
  • Work in conjunction with PM to identify and specify the appropriate materials of construction, equipment, and instrumentation required for the hydrogen manufacturing process.
  • Interface with vendors and suppliers to select necessary components.

Regulatory Compliance:
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and environmental requirements.
  • Collaborate with regulatory agencies and consultants to obtain permits and approvals as needed.

Cost Control and Budgeting:
  • Assist with coordination of project budget during the FEED phase.
  • Continuously monitor and control project costs to ensure alignment with the client's financial objectives.

Risk Assessment and Mitigation:
  • Identify potential project risks and develop mitigation strategies to minimize disruptions and delays.
  • Work with the project team to develop contingency plans.

Client Interaction:
  • Provide regular project updates and reports to clients and stakeholders.
  • Address client queries and concerns regarding the FEED phase.

Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in FEED studies for complex industrial projects, preferably in hydrogen production or similar industries.
  • Strong understanding of hydrogen manufacturing technologies, processes, and equipment.
  • Proficiency in engineering software, including AutoCAD, process simulation tools, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent project management skills, including budgeting and scheduling.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and regulatory requirements in the hydrogen manufacturing sector.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within cross-functional teams and with clients.

Education/Experience and Licenses:
  • Bachelor's or higher degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. Master's degree or specialized certifications in hydrogen-related fields is a plus.
  • 5-10 years experience.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) licensure.
  • EPC Experience a plus.
  • Familiarity with advanced hydrogen production methods, such as electrolysis or advanced reforming techniques.

Physical Demands
  • Ability to lift =>30lbs, extensive walking in manufacturing environment (indoor and outdoor exposure).
  • 25% international and domestic travel may be required.
  • Protective eye wear, footwear, hardhat and gloves where required.
