Talascend is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer for a direct hire role who will report to the VP of Product Engineering, North America in the hydrogen sector. Position is based in Houston, TX.

The company manufactures and supplies electrolysis equipment for the production of green hydrogen. To support the development of its Hydrogen Business North America, the company is looking for a Design Engineer to be based in the Houston, TX. office.
This position is part of a Global Engineering team effort with locations based in Seraing, Belgium, Suzhou City, China, and Houston, TX.

This position is part of a Global Engineering team effort with locations based in Seraing, Belgium, Suzhou City, China, and Houston, TX.
In collaboration with colleagues, the Mechanical Design Engineer will have the following responsibilities:
- Performs and delivers structural analysis, with respect to project design requirements
- Develop mechanical calculations for the sizing of various components of the electrolyzer
- Prepares the 3D models for simulations, and executes it following standard processes
- Performs simulation results analysis, and proposes optimization solutions
- Supports the Product Development Team in establishing Certification & Validation Plans
- Develop thermal calculations linked to the behavior of the electrolyzer
- Participates in relevant Design / Verification reviews
- Collaborate with CAD designers to produce detailed drawings for individual parts and assemblies
- Search for innovative material solutions and technical designs to improve the performance of equipment, lifespan, manufacturing, and assembly
- Participate in a Design for Manufacturability (DfM) approach in the design of equipment
- Write technical specifications for the purchase and manufacturing of key components
- Participate in the technical validation of suppliers, inspection of raw or finished parts, adaptations of plans or quality control instructions
- Provides updates to Engineering Management on project progress and roadblocks
- Participate in the implementation of validation tests in partnership with the supplier network
- To be the interface between the Design division, Project managers, and Manufacturing
Qualifications:
- 5-8 years experience in a similar function, ideally in mechanical design
- Engineering degree focused on mechanics, thermal, aeronautics, materials studies or fluid mechanics
- Experience with Autodesk Inventor 3D modeling, 2D drawing creation, and ANSYS FEA
- Possession of developed Soft Skills is an important element of our selection: Rigorous, proactive, responsible and autonomous, capable of managing time and priorities.
- Participating in a project in development does not scare you, and you manage your stress calmly.
- Experience in technical projects in the energy field is an asset
- Knowledge of electrolyzers or fuel cells, and more particularly stacks is a significant asset.
