Operating Engineer
Talascend is currently seeking an Operating Engineer for a contract opportunity with our client in Redwood City, California.
Overview
The main function of an Operating Engineer is to operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair facility equipment across various systems. Candidates should demonstrate technical expertise in at least one craft area such as electrical, HVAC, piping/plumbing, or central utility plant operations, while being multi-skilled in others to successfully complete daily and weekly work assignments.
Responsibilities
- Perform maintenance, monitor, and repair mechanical, plumbing, structural, furniture, fire, life safety, and control systems to ensure they meet applicable standards.
- Maintain responsibility for facility services, preventative maintenance, purchasing, inventory control, contracted maintenance, and general upkeep.
- Maintain equipment by cleaning, inspecting, calibrating, and replacing parts to optimize HVAC system and related equipment performance.
- Record readings and make adjustments as needed to ensure proper operation of equipment.
- Follow departmental policies for the safe storage, usage, and disposal of hazardous materials, and maintain a clean and safe work environment.
- Conduct periodic checks of tools and instrument inventories.
- Monitor the quality and cost of maintenance work performed by outside contractors.
- Adhere to all safety procedures, maintain good housekeeping, and recognize and address safety hazards.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 2-4 years of experience maintaining and repairing commercial building systems
- Ability to analyze the operation of various commercial or industrial mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems, identify problems, and take corrective action
- EPA 608 Type II Certification
- Working knowledge of computer applications including Word and Excel
Preferred Qualifications
- EPA 608 Universal Certification
- Two years of trades schooling in electrical system design, refrigeration, and HVAC
