Senior Mechanical Design Engineer
Talascend is currently seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer for a contract opportunity with our client in Phoenix, Arizona.
Overview
This role involves collaborating across engineering teams to develop aerospace solutions, reviewing engineering drawings, and ensuring compliance with industry standards. The position requires a high level of expertise in mechanical design and engineering drawing standards.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate across engineering teams to create solutions and systems that meet customer needs
- Participate in product development and support phases, mentoring less experienced engineers
- Contribute to the evolving technical validation group within the organization
- Validate engineering drawings to ensure full definition and adherence to standards
- Review engineering drawings and models for correct GD&T application to meet design intent
- Review engineering designs for proper model-based practices and standards
- Perform model validation and assess designs for manufacturing and cost efficiency
- Coordinate with team members on design reviews and improvements
Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in mechanical design
- Deep understanding of engineering drawings using ASME Y14.5 geometric dimensioning and tolerancing
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience and understanding of gas turbine engine components
- Proven application of ASME drawing standards including GD&T
- Deep comprehension of engineering drawings interpretation, preparation, and review
- Experience in detailed design phase
- Experience with legacy drawings and specifications
- Ability to act as a mentor and coach
- Effective communication of complex messages
- Self-motivated with the initiative to work independently
- Decisiveness and systematic analysis in complex situations
- Experience leading small teams and overseeing engineering efforts
