Senior Structural Engineer
Talascend is currently seeking a Senior Structural Engineer for a remote, contract opportunity with our client.
Overview
The senior structural engineer will be responsible for creating design solutions for reactor structures and components, focusing on nuclear code standards and quality assurance. This role involves detailed analysis, design development, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to support advanced nuclear reactor projects.
Responsibilities
- Perform detailed design, analysis, and documentation for structural supports used in nuclear facilities
- Develop and maintain design specifications, calculations, load evaluations, and qualification reports in compliance with nuclear codes and standards
- Prepare engineering design packages, including performing or reviewing design calculations for accuracy and code compliance
- Collaborate with engineering teams to define design requirements, resolve technical issues, and optimize component performance
- Interface with quality assurance teams, third-party reviewers, and regulatory bodies to support audits and design reviews
- Support material selection, fabrication, inspection criteria, and acceptance standards for nuclear components
- Participate in engineering change processes, nonconformance evaluations, and corrective actions
- Maintain current knowledge of industry codes, standards, and best practices
Qualifications
- B.S. degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent
- Minimum of eight years of equipment and component design experience (relevant M.S. degree credited as two years, PhD as four)
- Experience in design for manufacturability and assembly
- Deep understanding of structural and seismic design
- Experience in finite element stress analysis and mechanical analysis methods, with expertise in ANSYS
- Excellent writing and communication skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a creative approach
- Ability to work independently to solve challenging problems
- Ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently
- Familiarity with CAD tools, SolidWorks preferred
- Working experience with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section III preferred
- High integrity, open communication, and teamwork skills
