Talascend is currently seeking a Facilities HVAC Technician for a contract opportunity with our client in West Union, South Carolina.

Overview

We are looking for a skilled facilities technician with extensive HVAC expertise and EPA certification to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair building mechanical systems. This role involves focusing on heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment while supporting general facilities maintenance operations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on commercial HVAC systems including chillers, boilers, rooftop units, air handlers, VAV boxes, and associated controls.
  • Respond to service calls, identify system failures, and implement effective solutions to maintain building comfort and operational efficiency.
  • Maintain accurate service records and document work in the computerized maintenance management system.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable codes and regulations, including refrigerant handling according to EPA standards.
  • Conduct routine tasks such as filter changes, belt replacements, lubrication, calibration of thermostats and sensors, and monitoring building automation systems.
  • Perform regular inspections to identify potential issues before failures occur.
  • Support general facilities operations including electrical work, plumbing repairs, lighting maintenance, and minor carpentry tasks.
  • Coordinate with contractors for specialized work and assist with emergency response procedures.

Qualifications

  • EPA Universal Certification (Type I, II, and III) is mandatory.
  • Minimum of three years of hands-on experience servicing commercial HVAC systems.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC theory, refrigeration cycles, air distribution, and energy management.
  • Familiarity with building automation systems such as Tridium, Johnson Controls, or Siemens.
  • Proficiency with diagnostic tools including manifold gauges, multimeters, meggers, infrared thermometers, and combustion analyzers.
  • Basic computer skills for documentation and communication.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds, work from ladders and lifts, and navigate mechanical rooms and rooftops.
  • Comfortable working in varying temperature conditions and responding to after-hours emergencies on a rotating on-call schedule.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Trade school certification or associate degree in HVAC technology.
  • Additional certifications such as OSHA 10 or 30, CPO, or manufacturer-specific credentials.
  • Experience with chiller operations, boiler systems, VRF technology, and energy optimization initiatives.
  • Familiarity with preventive maintenance software and mobile work order applications.
