Water Resources Engineer
Talascend is currently seeking a Water Resources Engineer for a direct hire opportunity with our client in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Overview
This role involves providing senior technical leadership in water resources management within the mining industry, supporting project lifecycle phases from planning to closure, and delivering integrated, technically sound solutions.
Responsibilities
- Provide senior technical leadership for water resources planning and execution across the mining lifecycle, including permitting, operations, and closure.
- Lead and oversee water management strategies and analyses, including water balance development, surface water and groundwater interaction, water quality characterization, treatment, reuse, and conservation approaches.
- Review and validate hydrologic, hydraulic, and hydrogeologic analyses, including watershed-scale evaluations and risk-informed assessments.
- Support the design of water infrastructure such as ponds, impoundments, conveyance systems, and water treatment systems, considering constructability and operational practicality.
- Collaborate with project teams on integrated design efforts and constructability reviews to ensure feasible and efficient water management solutions.
- Interface with clients to explain technical concepts, support proposal development, and contribute to business development efforts.
- Manage or support projects ensuring scope, schedule, budget, safety, and client satisfaction targets are met.
- Develop and apply water balance models and risk-informed analyses to support decision-making, incorporating climate variability and long-term considerations.
- Mentor and develop junior staff, sharing technical expertise and best practices in water resources engineering.
- Collaborate with permitting, environmental, and construction teams to deliver integrated water management solutions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in civil, environmental, chemical, or mechanical engineering, or a related field from an accredited program.
- 13+ years of progressive experience in mine water management, water resources, hydrogeology, or related fields with direct application to mining projects.
- Experience with water balance development, surface water and groundwater modeling, and data interpretation.
- Experience interfacing with clients and supporting proposal development, scoping, and cost estimating for water-related work.
- Ability to manage or support projects with accountability for scope, schedule, budget, and financial performance.
- Experience supporting projects through design and construction, including involvement in constructability reviews.
- Strong technical writing and communication skills for explaining complex analyses to diverse audiences.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams and provide senior-level technical judgment.
