Talascend is currently seeking a Mining Water Resources Engineer for a direct hire opportunity with our client in Phoenix, Arizona.

Overview

This role involves leading and supporting mine water management projects, providing technical expertise from planning through construction and operations to ensure safe, sustainable, and efficient water solutions for mining clients.

Responsibilities

  • Provide senior technical leadership for mine water management across the mining lifecycle, including permitting, operations, and closure.
  • Develop and oversee mine water strategies, including water balance development, surface water and groundwater interaction, and water quality characterization.
  • Design and evaluate mine water infrastructure such as ponds, impoundments, conveyance systems, and treatment facilities.
  • Support the planning, evaluation, and design of water management systems considering constructability and operational practicality.
  • Engage with clients to explain technical concepts, evaluate alternatives, and support decision-making.
  • Assist in proposal development, scope of work creation, and resource planning for mine water projects.
  • Manage project execution, monitoring scope, schedule, budget, and quality to ensure client satisfaction.
  • Develop water balance models and support risk-informed decision-making using probabilistic and uncertainty-based analyses.
  • Mentor and develop junior staff within the environmental services team, sharing technical knowledge and best practices.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated water solutions balancing technical rigor, cost, and long-term sustainability.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil, environmental, chemical, or mechanical engineering or related field from an accredited program.
  • 13+ years of experience in mine water management, water resources, hydrogeology, or related fields with direct application to mining projects.
  • Experience in mine water balance development, surface water and groundwater modeling, and data interpretation.
  • Experience working directly with clients, supporting proposal development, and project scoping.
  • Ability to manage projects with accountability for scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Experience supporting projects through design and construction phases, including constructability reviews.
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills to explain complex analyses clearly.
  • Proven ability to collaborate within multidisciplinary teams and provide senior technical judgment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a relevant technical discipline.
  • Professional licensure (PE, PG) or ability to obtain.
  • Experience with mine permitting, operations, closure, and reclamation from a water management perspective.
  • Familiarity with modeling tools such as GoldSim, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, MODFLOW, or similar platforms.
  • Experience applying probabilistic, risk-informed, or uncertainty-based approaches to water management.
  • Mentoring staff and contributing to technical team development.
  • Background in mine closure planning, tailings water considerations, or long-term water stewardship strategies.
