Construction Project Manager
Talascend is currently seeking a Construction Project Manager for a contract opportunity with our client in San Diego, California.
Overview
We are looking for a construction professional to lead and support commercial construction projects focused on life sciences and technology tenant improvements. The role involves overseeing projects from design through closeout, managing smaller assignments independently, and representing client interests across all phases of construction delivery.
Responsibilities
- Assist senior project managers in overseeing construction projects from design, preconstruction, through closeout
- Coordinate day-to-day project activities including contractor communications, submittal reviews, RFIs, and meetings
- Maintain project documentation, schedules, and budgets to ensure accurate updates
- Lead smaller tenant improvement projects independently, managing all aspects from kickoff to occupancy
- Conduct regular site walks to monitor progress, verify work quality, and ensure compliance with plans and specifications
- Document site conditions and issues, track punch list items, and coordinate final inspections
- Monitor project expenditures and assist with change order processing and schedule updates
- Review contractor submittals, shop drawings, and coordinate responses to RFIs
- Facilitate weekly project meetings, prepare agendas, document minutes, and track action items
- Support contract administration and ensure compliance with building codes and permits
Qualifications
- 5-10 years of construction project management or coordination experience
- Background in commercial construction with exposure to life sciences, laboratory, or technology projects
- Experience working with general contractors, subcontractors, architects, and engineers
- Familiarity with tenant improvement projects and occupied building renovations
- Solid understanding of construction methods, sequencing, and building systems
- Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, and MEP drawings
- Basic knowledge of building codes and construction standards
- Familiarity with specialized systems such as laboratory utilities, cleanrooms, and data infrastructure (preferred)
- Proficiency with project management software, Microsoft Office Suite, and scheduling tools
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and work collaboratively
- Self-motivated with a desire to learn and grow professionally
Preferred Qualifications
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification (preferred)
- Working toward PMP, CCM, or LEED AP certification (a plus)
Shift
This position typically follows a Monday through Friday schedule, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM or 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
