Talascend is currently seeking a Design Release Engineer for a contract opportunity with our client in Warren, Michigan.

Overview

The Design Release Engineer will be responsible for developing and integrating interior hard trim and overhead components into vehicle interiors throughout their lifecycle, including definition, design execution, testing, and validation. The role involves leading cross-functional teams and collaborating with internal engineering groups, external suppliers, and other stakeholders to ensure successful product development and implementation.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and define requirements for interior hard trim and overhead systems
  • Lead the design, testing, and validation activities for interior components
  • Coordinate and drive cross-functional teams including interior restraints, body systems, electrical, HVAC, and cargo management
  • Manage change control, parts/drawing release, and configuration through GVDP
  • Perform dimensional, feasibility, and problem-solving analysis using GD&T, build stacks, and manufacturing feasibility assessments
  • Ensure quality, safety, and ergonomic considerations are integrated into design development
  • Balance business goals such as cost, mass, complexity, and timing to deliver effective solutions

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering (mechanical preferred)
  • 3+ years of experience developing and implementing technical solutions for injection molded or compression molded interior components
  • Experience with design release processes and systems
  • Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary and cross-cultural teams
  • Proven ability to manage ambiguity and adapt to rapid changes in a results-driven environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a Design Release Engineer (DRE)
  • Familiarity with structured problem-solving methods such as Design For Six Sigma (DFSS) Green belt or higher, Red-X
  • Experience with DFMEA, PFMEA, and GD&T
