Talascend is currently seeking an Operating Engineer for a contract opportunity with our client in Brea, California.

Overview

The operating engineer performs electrical installation, repair, and maintenance of electrical equipment and controls, as well as plumbing installation, repair, and maintenance of piping and associated equipment and components. the role also supports mechanical/electrical operating equipment and includes routine assessment and monitoring of building system operations.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and monitor the operation and make adjustments of refrigeration, heat exchanger, HVAC, electrical, emergency backup systems, and hot water systems.
  • Monitor operation, adjust, and maintain refrigeration, chilled water, and air conditioning equipment, including boilers and ventilating and hot water heaters.
  • Monitor mechanical and electrical operating equipment, record readings, and make adjustments as necessary to assure proper operation of equipment.
  • Analyze the operation of various systems, determine the cause of problems or malfunctions, and take corrective action as required.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on base building and critical system equipment, including completing preventive task sheets and reporting any impending supply or material shortages or equipment problems.
  • Install and repair plumbing and piping, including valves, filters, hot water systems, and associated controls.
  • Wire single and three phase motors, run conduit, pull wiring to machinery and motors, and install and rebuild pumps and motors.
  • Install and rebuild air compressors, heat exchangers, and replace bearings in motors and seals on pumps.
  • Install, repair, and maintain electrical controls, switching, and motor controls, and report any problems or malfunctions.
  • Maintain tools and order supplies as required for installation and repairs, keep logs, document equipment repairs, close work orders, track time accurately, and communicate with the operations manager and lead engineer.
  • Comply with departmental policy for the safe storage, usage, and disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work space and perform other duties as assigned.
  • Complete painting, carpentry, medical equipment repair, and other craftsman’s skills under specific infection control conditions.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or state equivalent required, with a minimum of two years of related trade schooling or two years of college.
  • Minimum four years’ experience in the electrician trade or related field, or minimum four years’ experience in HVAC/refrigeration trade or related field, or minimum four years’ experience in emergency backup systems (generators, UPS, etc.).
  • Skilled in the use of tools and machinery required by the position.
  • Knowledge of OSHA standards and local codes.
  • Team player with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate well in oral and written reports.
  • Familiarity with computer equipment and programs.
  • Ability to visually inspect machinery and buildings.
  • Ability to frequently walk up and down stairs for inspections and emergency procedure practice or implementation.
  • Ability to climb ladders up to 40 feet and lift 60 lbs repeatedly.
  • Ability to detect emergency alarms, auditory and/or visual.
  • Ability to reach difficult areas by getting on hands and knees during equipment inspections.

Shift

Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
