Talascend is currently seeking an Electrician for a contract opportunity with our client in Brownstown Township, Michigan.

Overview

The electrician will oversee the daily operation of the campus electrical power and lighting systems. Under general supervision, the electrician will install, operate, maintain, alter, troubleshoot, and repair electrical power and lighting distribution systems and a wide variety of industrial electrical equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair facility equipment on all systems.
  • Assist with maintenance, monitoring, and performance of preventive maintenance on electrical, heat exchanger, HVAC, emergency backup systems, and hot water systems.
  • Analyze system operation, determine causes of problems or malfunctions, and take corrective action as required.
  • Assist other mechanics and operators with major repairs and maintenance of building and equipment.
  • Install, repair, and maintain electrical controls, switching, and motor controls.
  • Monitor operation, repair, and maintain mechanical and electrical equipment, record readings as necessary, and report problems or malfunctions.
  • Comply with departmental policy for safe storage, usage, and disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Maintain a clean and safe workplace.
  • Oversee the general operation, repair, and maintenance of building electrical and lighting systems, perform new installations, and perform preventive maintenance.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on electrical, life safety, and fire alarm systems.
  • Understand engineering design and operational aspects of building critical systems and components.
  • Troubleshoot and respond to operational and emergency situations.
  • Use arc flash PPE as necessary to perform the work and maintain understanding of NFPA-70E.
  • Check malfunctioning equipment and put corrective actions in place.
  • Assist other departments with maintenance and repair of heating and cooling valves, water cooling equipment, boilers and heating and hot water equipment, pumps, valves, piping, and filters.
  • Ensure work is performed efficiently with a minimum amount of disruption and inconvenience.
  • Prioritize preventive maintenance and corrective and emergent work orders (annual, monthly, weekly, and daily).
  • Identify and remediate Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) issues as they arise.
  • Complete assigned training and comply with established training standards at all times.
  • Recommend and estimate facilities repairs and improvements for inclusion in the annual budget.
  • Ensure availability of an adequate inventory of tools and other supplies to operate the building.
  • Prepare and submit purchase order requests, develop sources for stock materials, and perform periodic checks of inventory levels and equipment conditions.

Qualifications

  • Minimum high school diploma.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the duties of this position through relevant experience, training, or education.
  • Team player with good interpersonal skills and ability to communicate well in oral and written reports.
  • Familiar with BMS and CMMS systems.
  • Skilled and physically able to operate electric hand tools, work on a ladder, carry tools, lift and carry heavy loads, and operate required equipment.
  • Able to work in close places such as closets, crawl spaces, attics, and vaults.
  • Able to work on building roofs.
  • Proficient in basic computer application software such as MS Office, Outlook, and work order system tools.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Electrical license.
  • Holds a trade license.

Shift

This position will be on 2nd shift (2:00pm–10:30pm), with the possibility of 1st shift during the first month for training. Off-hours shifts, evening, night, and weekend work may be required, and the individual must be available for on-call work.
