Talascend is currently seeking an EMS Systems Expert for a remote, contract opportunity with our client.

Overview

The EMS Systems Expert will lead technical activities related to EMS upgrades, system configuration, testing, and quality assurance within electric utility control environments. This role involves working with complex EMS and SCADA systems, providing technical leadership, and coordinating testing and documentation efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Perform technical activities required to support and execute EMS upgrades, including installation, configuration, migration, testing, and post cutover support.
  • Assist with system configuration, troubleshooting, and remediation of technical issues during the upgrade lifecycle.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation such as test plans, defect reports, and configuration records.
  • Coordinate and lead testing activities, including FAT, SAT, and point-to-point validation of field devices and data mappings.
  • Support quality assurance processes by identifying, categorizing, and tracking defects, and validating patches.
  • Serve as the primary technical liaison between client teams and AspenTech, ensuring clear communication and issue resolution.
  • Provide guidance and recommendations for EMS platform optimization and process improvements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years SCADA experience, with at least 5 years hands-on expertise with OSI Monarch systems.
  • Deep technical knowledge of OSI Monarch EMS platform, including modules like GMS, OpenNet, and State Estimation.
  • Experience executing EMS upgrades and working with real-time power system operations.
  • Proficiency in Windows, Linux, SQL, OpenHIS, and energy databases.
  • Hands-on experience with EMS testing tools and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills to coordinate with diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform independently and drive technical initiatives.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with CAISO or other ISO/RTO data interfaces, WEIM integration, and NERC CIP environments.
  • Familiarity with OpenHIS, OpenIA, and energy accounting concepts.
  • Exposure to ADMS, DERMS, or distribution automation systems.
  • Understanding of Cyber Security standards and related certifications.
  • Experience with Ambient Adjusted Ratings methodology and OpenAAR configuration.
