Talascend is currently seeking a Material Handler for a contract opportunity with our client in Houston, Texas.

Overview

This role involves supporting shipping, receiving, warehouse, logistics, and facilities operations by managing materials, maintaining inventory accuracy, and ensuring safety compliance to deliver excellent customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver outstanding customer service while maintaining a professional and positive attitude.
  • Receive, inspect, unload, and distribute incoming shipments, packages, materials, and equipment.
  • Load and unload delivery trucks safely and efficiently.
  • Verify packing slips against received materials and promptly notify the Project Manager of discrepancies.
  • Archive packing slips and shipping documentation in designated project files.
  • Validate incoming and outgoing shipments for accuracy.
  • Coordinate shipments with vendors, carriers, and internal customers.
  • Schedule freight pickups and deliveries.
  • Prepare outgoing shipments by palletizing, shrink wrapping, labeling, and staging materials.
  • Process shipping and receiving documentation accurately and on time.
  • Track shipments and resolve shipping discrepancies.
  • Maintain organized staging areas for incoming and outgoing materials.
  • Monitor inventory levels and maintain accurate inventory records.
  • Identify, label, and properly store surplus materials.
  • Replenish warehouse supplies, tools, and consumables to prevent stock shortages.
  • Order warehouse and operational supplies as needed.
  • Break down pallets, crates, and cardboard boxes for proper disposal or recycling.
  • Maintain an organized warehouse and storage areas.
  • Maintain clean, organized loading docks, receiving areas, and designated staging locations.
  • Manage designated storage areas for forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment.
  • Safely operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment following established safety procedures.
  • Follow all Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures when operating or servicing powered industrial equipment.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Manage trash collection and recycling in accordance with site procedures.
  • Follow all safety policies and procedures, conduct safety inspections, and escalate concerns as needed.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in shipping and receiving, warehouse operations, logistics, inventory control, or material handling.
  • Forklift and pallet jack certification, or the ability to obtain certification upon hire.
  • Knowledge of warehouse inventory control and shipping/receiving processes.
  • Experience operating forklifts and other powered industrial equipment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
