CNC Programmer
Talascend is currently seeking a CNC Programmer for a contract opportunity with our client in Greenville, South Carolina.
Overview
This role involves 2nd shift CNC programming and shop support for machining large-format equipment, including VTLs, VBMs, and gantry 5-axis machines. The position requires generating and maintaining CNC programs, supporting manufacturing processes, and collaborating with engineering and shop floor teams to ensure efficient operations.
Responsibilities
- Program, process development, and shop support for large VTLs, VBMs, gantry 5-axis, and other multi-purpose machines
- Generate and validate CNC programs using NX-CAM or other software
- Verify new CNC programs prior to implementation on the shop floor utilizing Vericut
- Incorporate on-machine probing cycles for part and process validation, including error trapping
- Create programs following standards and qualified machining parameters
- Provide CNC-related support to manufacturing engineers and operator training during machine startups and process improvements
- Support daily shop floor troubleshooting and programming
- Support and implement tooling and fixturing requirements for CNC machines
- Develop and support workstation instructions related to CNC operations
- Initiate and lead process improvement projects to enhance safety, quality, cost, and delivery
- Communicate effectively with team members and support a collaborative work environment
- Work effectively both independently and within a matrixed team in a fast-paced setting
Qualifications
- 4 years of experience with graphical based CAM system CNC programming
- Experience with Siemens NX CAM preferred
- Minimum of 1 year of experience with high-level machine tool controls, including sub-routine, Renishaw probing routines, and variable-based programming
- Experience managing tight tolerances on large machinery up to 2.5 meters
- Extensive experience machining nickel-based superalloys such as Inconel, Rene, Hastelloy
- Hands-on experience as a machinist, setting up and proving out complex first-piece programs
- Strong problem solving and organization skills with advanced math skills in geometry and trigonometry
- Experience using Vericut or similar CNC verification software
- Familiarity with machine controls including Fanuc, Haas, Okuma, and Siemens
- Ability to interpret drawing requirements and manage multiple projects concurrently
Preferred Qualifications
- Creating 5-axis CNC programs using CAM software, preferably NX
- Managing projects involving large-format equipment where factors like work hardening and thermal stability are critical
