CNC Programmer
Talascend is currently seeking a CNC Programmer for a contract opportunity with our client in Greenville, South Carolina.
Overview
This role involves generating and maintaining CNC programs for various machining processes, including multi-axis milling, grinding, and EDM. The position requires hands-on experience with complex CNC programming, machine setup, troubleshooting, and process improvements in a manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Generate and maintain CNC programs utilizing NX-CAM or other software, including multi-axis milling, grinding, and EDM
- Verify new CNC programs prior to release on the shop floor using verification software
- Incorporate on-machine probing using Renishaw cycles for part and process validation, including error trapping
- Create programs following standards and qualified machining parameters
- Provide CNC related support to manufacturing engineers and operator training during machine startup and process improvements
- Support and implement tooling and fixturing requirements for CNC machines
- Generate and support workstation instructions for CNC related issues
- Lead process improvement projects to enhance safety, quality, cost, and delivery
- Communicate effectively with team members regarding CNC operations and issues
- Work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, matrixed environment
- Assist in creating 5-axis CNC programs using CAM systems, preferably NX
- Manage tight tolerances on large-format equipment, with a focus on part deflection, work hardening, and thermal stability
- Machining experience with nickel-based superalloys like Inconel, Rene, Hastelloy, etc., common in aerospace and heavy-duty gas turbine industries
- Interpret drawing requirements and manage multiple projects concurrently
- Support process validation using Vericut or similar simulation software
Qualifications
- Educational requirements are not specified
- Minimum of 1 year of experience with high-level machine tool controls, including sub-routine programming, Renishaw probing routines, and CLM (closed loop machining)
- Hands-on experience as a machinist setting up and proving out complex programs
- Experience with machining nickel-based superalloys such as Inconel, Rene, Hastelloy, etc.
- Strong problem-solving skills and organization skills
- Above average shop math skills in geometry and trigonometry
- Proficiency with CNC verification/machine simulation software such as Vericut (preferred)
- Familiarity with machine controls including Haas and Okuma
- Ability to interpret drawings and manage multiple projects
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Okuma MU10000 or similar controls
- High-level proficiency in creating 5-axis CNC programs using NX or equivalent CAM software
