Talascend is currently seeking a Maintenance Technician for a contract opportunity with our client in South Bend, Indiana.

Overview

The maintenance technician maintains and repairs facilities and assets inside them, supporting operations, inspections, and maintenance processes across mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and food equipment. They assist other technical staff and perform independent maintenance tasks to ensure facility efficiency and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain lighting system bulbs and ballasts
  • Perform minor electrical troubleshooting and repairs
  • Troubleshoot and repair motors and pumps
  • Assist the operations team in maintenance and repair of building and equipment
  • Perform general interior maintenance including HVAC/R equipment, auto/overhead doors, and food equipment
  • Conduct rooftop, refrigeration, auto/overhead doors, and food equipment preventive maintenance
  • Perform plumbing repairs
  • Participate in on-call and after-hours maintenance calls
  • Follow all safety procedures, maintain good housekeeping, and recognize hazards
  • Ensure compliance with relevant ordinances, codes, and laws
  • Handle hazardous materials safely and in accordance with policies
  • Engage in ongoing technical, safety, and operational training
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment
  • Document work performance and materials procurement as directed
  • Support conveyor and sortation systems maintenance
  • Troubleshoot and maintain equipment such as scanners, printers, scales, networks, drives, and UPS systems
  • Identify, maintain, and troubleshoot PLCs and components
  • Assist mobile engineers

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Ability to identify and maintain food service equipment
  • Ability to troubleshoot control network components and motor controls, including variable frequency drives and electrical systems up to 480V 3-phase
  • Electrical hands-on experience and troubleshooting skills
  • Strong reasoning, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to interpret mechanical and electrical drawings
  • Experience with SCADA systems and KPIs
  • Ability to train others with lesser skills
  • Ability to access all facility areas and interpret policies and procedures
  • Valid state driver’s license required
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 80 lbs., use ladders up to 30 ft, and possess mechanical and electrical aptitude
  • Frequent climbing, bending, kneeling, lifting, and driving required
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both oral and written
  • Must pass background, drug/alcohol, and MVR screening
  • Ability to work independently or in a team
  • Commitment to safety, good housekeeping, and customer service
  • Flexibility for work hours and days, including holidays

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completion of an applicable technical training program
  • Minimum of one year experience in building repair and maintenance, plumbing, and electrical work
  • Controls systems knowledge or programming experience
  • EPA certification (Type 1, 2, or Universal)
  • Experience with UPS systems and advanced automation controls
  • UST Class B certification

The shift for this position is standard working hours as assigned, with some flexibility required due to the nature of the role.
