Talascend is currently seeking an Ergonomics Engineer for a contract opportunity with our client in Warren, Michigan.

Overview

As an ergonomics engineer, you will be responsible for identifying and resolving ergonomic issues to reduce injuries and improve manufacturing efficiency for vehicle programs. You will collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams and external suppliers to ensure ergonomic standards are met throughout the production process.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the subject matter expert in ergonomics, supporting launch and pre-production activities for new and major vehicle programs.
  • Conduct ergonomic risk analyses of new product designs and establish threshold limit values.
  • Collaborate with product designers, manufacturing engineering, industrial engineering, and plant personnel, including UAW and non-UAW workers.
  • Manage ergonomic issues from identification to closure, leading root cause analysis and follow-up efforts.
  • Use 3D Virtual Digital Human Model (DHM) simulations and CAD data to determine ergonomic parameters for vehicle assembly.
  • Lead ergonomic initiatives to improve processes and prevent ergonomic issues before physical builds begin.
  • Provide updates and reports on ergonomic issues and projects to leadership and supporting analytics and lessons learned.
  • Support ergonomic assessments of assembly components, operator layouts, and workstation designs.
  • Assist in implementation of launch deliverables and station readiness for manufacturing.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial, Ergonomics, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering
  • At least 2 years of experience in ergonomics or industrial engineering, ideally with CAD and automotive manufacturing
  • Proficient in ergonomic risk assessment and analysis methodologies
  • Experience with 3D CAD and digital human modeling tools (preferred)
  • Understanding of manufacturing and assembly processes, including workstation design and material flow
  • Ability to evaluate assembly jobs for injury risks and ergonomic compliance

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience evaluating manufacturing processes in virtual environments
  • Knowledge of automotive assembly, engine castings, or stamping operations

This role involves travel up to 20%, both in state and out of state, and participation in shutdown days and red days. The position is expected to last approximately 52 weeks, with the possibility of extension.
