Mechanical Analysis Engineer
Talascend is currently seeking a Mechanical Analysis Engineer for a contract opportunity with our client in Bellevue, Washington.
Overview
This role involves developing analysis methodologies using finite element and hand calculations to predict the mechanical behavior of reactor core components, as well as automating analyses through software development. The engineer will perform mechanical analyses of reactor cores, verify and validate methods and software, and support testing for validation purposes.
Responsibilities
- Analyze reactor core and core component mechanical behavior using finite element analysis (FEA), with Abaqus preferred
- Develop analysis methods for sodium fast reactor core mechanical behavior
- Develop software using Python to automate finite element model generation for analysis of reactor cores and components
- Support software verification and validation by developing documentation, including requirements and test reports
- Assist in testing for validation of mechanical codes and methods, including developing test requirements, executing acceptance testing, performing pre-test predictions, post-processing data, and collaborating with test engineers
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering (or equivalent)
- 3+ years of relevant work experience
- Strong finite element analysis (FEA) experience, including nonlinear analysis, with Abaqus preferred
- Expert understanding of finite element methods and fundamental solid mechanics
- Coding skills, preferably in Python
- Strong technical writing skills
- Ability to meet aggressive schedules and work proactively
- Effective communication and teamwork skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with nonlinear analysis in FEA
- Experience with software verification and validation processes
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
