Talascend is currently seeking a Manufacturing Tooling Specialist for a contract opportunity with our client in Greenville, South Carolina.
Overview
The role involves developing, maintaining, and improving cutting-tool content within a Tool Data Management environment to ensure accurate and accessible tooling data for CNC programming and manufacturing processes. The specialist will collaborate closely with CNC programmers, machinists, manufacturing engineers, local tooling experts, and suppliers.
Responsibilities
- Own and maintain cutting-tool data content within TDM, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
- Review existing cutting-tool definitions and transition approved tooling into TDM as the single source of truth.
- Create and edit cutting-tool and toolholder geometry, defining complete tool assemblies and attributes.
- Maintain approved feeds, speeds, and cutting parameters based on testing and metallurgical results.
- Serve as the primary contact for implementing new cutting tools, from request to availability for use.
- Communicate with programmers about new or revised tooling readiness.
- Engage with CNC programmers and machinists to understand tooling needs and shop-floor challenges.
- Ensure the integrity of TDM naming and classification structures and recommend improvements when necessary.
Qualifications
- Approximately 5-8 years of relevant manufacturing experience (more with strong applicable skills).
- Experience working with TDM Systems (preferred) or comparable tool-management systems.
- Experience with Siemens NX CAM (preferred) or similar CAM software.
- Strong practical knowledge of milling and turning cutting tools.
- Understanding of complete cutting-tool assemblies and their components.
- Ability to create and modify 3D cutting-tool geometries.
- Knowledge of feeds, speeds, and machining fundamentals.
- Relevant technical experience in machining, manufacturing, tooling, or CNC operations.
- Highly detail-oriented, organized, and committed to data accuracy.
- Self-directed, with comfort working in developing process environments.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with various teams.
