Talascend is currently seeking a Mobile Facilities Engineer for a contract to hire opportunity with our client in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Overview

The primary responsibility of a mobile facilities engineer is to operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair facility equipment across multiple facilities. The role requires demonstrated technical expertise in at least one core trade area—electrical, HVAC, piping/plumbing, or central utility plant operations—with multi-skilled capability in additional disciplines.

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance, monitoring, and repairs on mechanical, plumbing, structural, furniture, fire, life safety, and control systems to ensure facilities meet applicable standards.
  • Travel between multiple facilities to ensure proper operation and functionality.
  • Maintain responsibility for facility services, including:
    • Preventative maintenance
    • Purchasing and inventory control
    • Contracted maintenance oversight
    • General maintenance activities
  • Technical proficiency across systems
  • Maintain HVAC systems and associated equipment through cleaning, inspection, calibration, and replacement of parts to ensure optimal performance.
  • Record equipment readings and make necessary adjustments to ensure proper operation.
  • Comply with departmental policies related to the safe storage, use, and disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
  • Perform periodic inspections of tools and instruments to ensure proper inventory and functionality.
  • Monitor the quality and cost of maintenance work performed by external contractors.
  • Adhere to all safety procedures; maintain good housekeeping and safe work areas.
  • Identify potential hazards and recommend or implement corrective actions to eliminate risks.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 5–7 years of relevant work experience.
  • Proven experience maintaining and repairing commercial building systems.
  • Ability to analyze commercial or industrial mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems; diagnose malfunctions; and perform corrective actions.
  • EPA 608 Type II Certification.
  • Working knowledge of computer applications, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Professional engineer (P.Eng) license is not required for this role.

Preferred Qualifications

  • EPA 608 Universal Certification.
  • Two years of trade school education in:
    • Electrical system design
    • Refrigeration
    • HVAC systems
