Mobile Facilities Engineer
Talascend is currently seeking a Mobile Facilities Engineer for a contract to hire opportunity with our client in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Overview
The primary responsibility of a mobile facilities engineer is to operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair facility equipment across multiple facilities. The role requires demonstrated technical expertise in at least one core trade area—electrical, HVAC, piping/plumbing, or central utility plant operations—with multi-skilled capability in additional disciplines.
Responsibilities
- Perform maintenance, monitoring, and repairs on mechanical, plumbing, structural, furniture, fire, life safety, and control systems to ensure facilities meet applicable standards.
- Travel between multiple facilities to ensure proper operation and functionality.
- Maintain responsibility for facility services, including:
- Preventative maintenance
- Purchasing and inventory control
- Contracted maintenance oversight
- General maintenance activities
- Technical proficiency across systems
- Maintain HVAC systems and associated equipment through cleaning, inspection, calibration, and replacement of parts to ensure optimal performance.
- Record equipment readings and make necessary adjustments to ensure proper operation.
- Comply with departmental policies related to the safe storage, use, and disposal of hazardous materials.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
- Perform periodic inspections of tools and instruments to ensure proper inventory and functionality.
- Monitor the quality and cost of maintenance work performed by external contractors.
- Adhere to all safety procedures; maintain good housekeeping and safe work areas.
- Identify potential hazards and recommend or implement corrective actions to eliminate risks.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 5–7 years of relevant work experience.
- Proven experience maintaining and repairing commercial building systems.
- Ability to analyze commercial or industrial mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems; diagnose malfunctions; and perform corrective actions.
- EPA 608 Type II Certification.
- Working knowledge of computer applications, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Professional engineer (P.Eng) license is not required for this role.
Preferred Qualifications
- EPA 608 Universal Certification.
- Two years of trade school education in:
- Electrical system design
- Refrigeration
- HVAC systems
