Microbiology Laboratory Technician
Talascend is currently seeking a Microbiology Laboratory Technician for a contract opportunity with our client in Birmingham, Alabama.
Overview
The microbiology laboratory technician will perform routine environmental monitoring, utilities testing, validation activities, and ensure compliance with quality and safety standards within a laboratory setting.
Responsibilities
- Monitor classified areas using active/passive air sampling and surface sampling methods for bacteria and fungi detection, trend data to identify anomalies, and characterize microflora.
- Test city water, pre-treatment water, clean steam, water for injection, nitrogen, and process air for microbial counts and endotoxins.
- Utilize classical microbiological methods to identify microorganisms and perform validation activities such as biological indicator recovery, bioburden testing, endotoxin testing, and challenge vial testing.
- Analyze data and input into microbiology information management systems.
- Document test results and conclusions in compliance with GMP standards, ensuring test forms are complete before submission.
- Maintain adherence to safety, health, and environmental policies, procedures, and directives, using MSDS to identify chemical hazards and reporting incidents.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional microbiology or laboratory science education preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to perform duties related to environmental monitoring, microbiology testing, and GMP documentation.
- Experience with microbiological methods, validation activities, and data analysis in a regulated environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with microbiology information management systems (MIMS).
- Knowledge of safety and handling procedures related to laboratory chemicals and biological agents.
