Talascend is currently seeking a Mechanical Technician for a contract opportunity with our client in Warren, Michigan.

Overview

The role involves supporting equipment setup, operation, testing, and process checks within a controlled laboratory environment, primarily focusing on battery cell testing and manufacturing processes. The technician will work second shift, performing tasks aimed at ensuring reliable and consistent lab operations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform equipment setup, operation, cleaning, testing, and process checks to ensure functionality.
  • Work in a controlled, clean room environment while wearing protective equipment.
  • Mix chemicals according to specified recipes.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot equipment, and observe for functional issues.
  • Maintain records, analyze data, and report results.
  • Recommend process revisions and document best practices.
  • Use data collection and lean manufacturing tools to identify operational improvements.
  • Execute problem-solving techniques to enhance efficiency, quality, and safety.
  • Participate in team meetings, coordinate maintenance activities, and support work requests.
  • Ensure proper disposal of waste materials and maintain safety and housekeeping standards.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree preferred.
  • At least 2 years of experience in a lab/testing environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of mechanical, chemical, and electrical concepts.
  • Working knowledge of lab manufacturing computer applications.
  • Ability to interpret engineering instructions accurately.
  • Strong communication and analytical skills, with the ability to handle somewhat complex problems.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the duties of this position through relevant experience, training, or education.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a chemical laboratory.
  • Knowledge of vehicle battery systems and safe work practices.
  • Familiarity with test equipment, measuring devices, mechanical, electrical diagnostics, machining, and welding.
  • Implementation of lean manufacturing tools and processes.

The shift is second shift, running from 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM, Monday through Friday. Candidates should be comfortable working these hours long-term, with some flexibility for extended or possibly ongoing employment.
